Yesterday was a very special day in Barcelona: Sant Jordi, one of the city’s most iconic celebrations. The streets were filled with books, roses, and people enjoying the atmosphere, and at DIME we decided to take this opportunity to do something different.
The B1 extensive group, together with their teacher, left the classroom and stepped into the city. They walked through the book stalls, browsed through books, and talked about the meaning of this beloved Catalan tradition.
During the activity, they didn’t just practise Spanish in a natural way, but also shared opinions, asked questions, and experienced the language in a real-life context. Buying a book, commenting on a cover, or asking for recommendations became opportunities to learn.
After the walk, they took a break to sit together and have something to drink, surrounded by the festive Sant Jordi atmosphere. It was the perfect moment to keep talking, relax, and enjoy each other’s company — all in Spanish.
This type of activity reflects our way of teaching: learning Spanish is not only about grammar, but about living the language, connecting with the culture, and feeling part of the city.
A different class, a true immersion into Catalan culture, and an authentic way to practise the language.
