Leonardo vs Michelangelo — An Immersive Art Experience

Practice your Spanish and discover which of the two Renaissance geniuses is your favorite

What is the title of the exhibition?

Leonardo versus Michelangelo.

Where, when, how, and how much does it cost?

You can see the exhibition at the IDEAL Digital Arts Center in Poblenou from September 17. The museum is open every day except Tuesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Prices vary depending on the day: Wednesday through Friday it costs €16, weekends €22, and every Monday only €11. There are also special prices for children, seniors, families, etc. Tickets can be purchased online or at the museum itself before your visit.

What languages is it in?

The information in the exhibition rooms is in Spanish and Catalan, but there is a QR code where you can get all the information in English. The museum's website is available in English and the museum staff also speak English, so you won't have any problems before or during your visit, even if your Spanish or that of your family or friends is not very good.

What is it about and why should I go?

The Leonardo versus Michelangelo exhibition allows you to discover the life, work, and influence of these two great artists of the Italian Renaissance through an immersive, educational, and highly entertaining experience. In 1503, these two artists were living in Florence and were commissioned to paint a mural each in the Hall of the Five Hundred in the Palazzo Vecchio. The people of Florence saw this event as a challenge between the two geniuses; each Florentine had their favorite and could not agree on which of the two artists was the best. The exhibition at IDEAL is based on this idea, and visitors have to walk through different rooms, discover who their favorite artist is, and vote in each one. The whole experience lasts about 90 minutes, during which time you will pass through more traditional rooms, but also a virtual reality room, an immersive room, and a metaverse room where you can see works such as the Sistine Chapel and the Mona Lisa up close. Don't miss it if you are a fan of art and technology and/or are still not sure whether you are team Leonardo or team Michelangelo 😉.

Is it a good idea to go with children?

It's a great idea. Children will have a wonderful time and learn a lot if you decide to take them to see this exhibition. The information is interesting, visually appealing, and well explained, and there is something for visitors to do in every room, so children won't have a chance to get bored. The experience is interactive and suitable for all ages, although the metaverse section is specifically designed for children aged 6 and over.

Can I have a drink or grab something to eat near the exhibition?

IDEAL does not have a cafeteria, but it is right next to Rambla del Poblenou, one of the most beautiful and pleasant streets to stroll along in this part of the city. Rambla del Poblenou is full of restaurants, cafés, and shops, and it's very easy to find anything you want to eat or drink. In addition, the street is lined with trees and benches to sit on if you just want to relax and soak up the sun after so much technology.
