Rubens and the Artists of the Flemish Baroque

Practice your Spanish by visiting Caixa Forum

Barcelona Rubens y el barroco flamenco (1)

Where, when, how, and how much does it cost?

The exhibition is on display at Caixa Forum, very close to Plaza de Espanya, until Sunday, September 21.

Tickets grant access to the entire museum (not just the exhibition) and cost €6. CaixaBank customers, children under 16, and holders of a European Youth Card have free admission, and discounts are available for people over 65 or with a library card.

What languages is it in?

All the information in the rooms is in Catalan and Spanish, but at the beginning of the exhibition there is a QR code that you can use to open the same information in English on your mobile phone. In addition, you will usually find room guides dressed in black and orange near the door who are super friendly and happy to give you an introduction to the exhibition in Catalan, Spanish, or English and answer any questions you may have.

What is it about and why should I go?

The exhibition focuses on Rubens' importance and influence as an artist and his way of working, while also explaining how the art market functioned at the time: what subjects were painted and why, how artists collaborated with each other, the importance of patrons, etc. The works are a real treat for the eyes, and it's a good idea to go either to stroll through the exhibition for half an hour simply enjoying the works or to read absolutely everything and travel back to the Baroque period for an hour and a half. You have to go if you like the art of the great masters and want to enjoy the works of the Prado Museum without having to travel to Madrid.

Is it a good idea to go with children?

Definitely, yes. In addition to not being a very long exhibition, it has a space where children (and adults) can play and compose their own paintings by combining elements from works they have seen in the exhibition. If after being in the museum your children need to run around a bit in the open air, you are very close to the Montjuic gardens and Joan Miró Park.

Can I have a drink or grab something to eat near the exhibition?

The museum has a very pleasant café with a small outdoor terrace with plants that is a real oasis. It is also very close to Plaza de Espanya and Avenida de Sants, an area full of bars and restaurants.
