Last Friday, we organized a very special activity that is always a great success among our students: a vermouth gathering in Spanish!
"Ir de Vermut" has become a very popular trend in Barcelona. Vermouth is a liqueur made from a handcrafted blend of wines and aromatic herbs, but the concept of "hacer un vermut" or "ir a tomar un vermut" no longer just refers to drinking. Instead, it is associated with enjoying pinchos, olives, anchovies, potatoes, and other delicious tapas and dishes that accompany it. It is an appetizer that can be enjoyed standing or sitting, but always in good company. Many bars in the city have revived this tradition and compete in offering the best quality and flavors of vermouth.
Among all the options, we chose to visit a small, well-maintained neighborhood vermouth bar: Vermuteria Puigmartí. This vermouth bar is located in the heart of the Gracia neighborhood and stands out for its warm and welcoming atmosphere. This isn’t the first time we’ve chosen it for our gatherings, and they always impress us with their professionalism and friendliness. Every time, they treat us exceptionally well, and honestly, we love it! 😊
Last Friday, we met there at 12:00 PM (the typical vermouth hour) and filled a long table with students and teachers. Some students already knew each other, but most did not, as they are attending different courses at our Spanish school. Some are taking private Spanish lessons, while others are enrolled in extensive Spanish courses at various levels. With a good vermouth, some exquisite patatas bravas, and a delicious cheese board, shyness gave way to laughter, and before we knew it, we had spent two hours chatting and joking in Spanish.
Here are some photos from the event! Some of them are from our student Hugo Donagher :)!
