Initial Internship Phase for the Students of the Master’s in Spanish as a Foreign Language Teaching (UB): Observation

Getting to Know the Future ELE Teachers

November arrives, and with it, for the fourth consecutive year, the first internship period begins at Dime for the students of the Master’s in Training of Teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona (UB).

This Master’s program seeks to provide future teachers with the best possible training in something as important and complex as teaching the Spanish language to foreign learners. The theoretical component is extensive and complete, but it also requires practical immersion in real ELE (Spanish as a Foreign Language) classrooms to be truly comprehensive, since it is in the day-to-day experience of teaching, in contact with students, and through the practical application of various resources and strategies that all the acquired knowledge is consolidated.

During these days, the trainee students carry out a series of class observations, without interaction in the classroom, across groups of different levels. They take notes on how each session unfolds and share with the supervising teachers any questions or comments they may have. The Dime teaching team is always willing to help and support them in everything they need.

This first week we have been joined by María José and Melisa, two wonderful students who have been able to observe several groups of very diverse levels — from A1, where students are just beginning to say their first sentences, to B1, where they can already hold conversations and express their doubts and comments in Spanish.

For us, contributing to the training of new teachers is a privilege and always an enriching and inspiring experience, because getting to know them and seeing their enthusiasm and passion for such an important profession encourages us to keep working and improving every day.

The internship period of the UB Master’s in ELE students has already become an essential annual event for us.

We’re ready to welcome new students next week!
