Last Friday, from 12:35 to 13:35, we celebrated another cultural class at DIME Spanish School, this time dedicated to La Castañada, the Catalan festival that welcomes autumn.
Our teacher Cristina Ruiz explained the history of this tradition, which takes place every year on October 31st. Before Halloween became popular, it was a family celebration to remember loved ones and enjoy seasonal food together.
During the activity, students learned vocabulary and expressions related to food, seasons, and local customs. They also discovered some delicious traditional treats: roasted chestnuts, baked sweet potatoes, and panellets, small almond-based sweets typical of this time of year.
If you’d like to try them at home, here’s an easy recipe:

Cultural classes like this one are an essential part of the DIME experience. They help students practice Spanish in real-life situations, learn more about Barcelona’s traditions, and connect with people from other groups in a friendly and fun atmosphere.
A big thank you to everyone who joined, and remember that all DIME students are welcome at our cultural activities.
See you at the next one!
