The students of the A2 intensive group celebrated the final class of the July intensive course in a very special way: they held the session outside the school and went for a horchata.
For this special occasion, together with their teacher, they chose La Valenciana horchatería, a horchatería with a lot of history, located in the heart of the city (Calle Aribau 16), founded in 1910.
Horchata is a drink much loved by the people of Barcelona. It is very energetic and nutritious, with a unique flavor that quenches thirst and is ideal for summer. It is made from the tuber of the chufa (tigernut), one of the first plants to be cultivated by humans. The roots of the name "horchata" likely come from Latin. According to the Royal Spanish Academy, the word horchata comes from the Latin hordeata, meaning "made with barley." Originally, horchata was made not with chufas but with barley. Nevertheless, in Spain, chufa horchata has firmly established itself as the predominant form.
Today, the Valencian Community is the main producer in Europe.
If you haven't tried this delight yet, you can find it in many bars and horchaterías in Barcelona. You’re sure to love it!
